FAQs

How long can a baby stay in a bassinet for?

A baby can stay in a bassinet for the first 3 to 6 months of development. This can depend on how quickly your baby grows, and the bassinet height and safe weight limits.

Once your baby starts to outgrow the bassinet, you should begin transitioning your little one to a crib, when they start showing signs of rolling over. For safety reasons you want to minimise the risk of your baby falling out of a bassinet.

Is it ok to leave a newborn in a bassinet?

It’s quite safe to leave a newborn in a bassinet for short periods, always keep a watchful eye and they should always be supervised.

It is recommended that newborn babies sleep in the same room as the parents for the first 6 months, to prevent any issues or the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome)

You should always watch your baby and never leave them unattended in a bassinet for extended periods.

When preparing a bassinet for your baby, make sure the bassinet is free from toys or bedding that is loose, to prevent suffocation.

How can I adjust my baby's bassinet?

Our collection of portable bassinets, and baby furniture Australia can easily be adjusted based on the product type and construction.

Here are some helpful steps you can follow to adjust your bassinet.

Step 1. Always check the instructions and manufacturer recommendations for guidance

Step 2: Make sure the bassinet is placed on a flat surface, as well as a bassinet with wheels.

Step 3: You can adjust the height of the bassinet if it offers a feature like this

Step 4: If you’re using a co sleeper bassinet or bedside bassinet, you should attach this to your bedside following the instructions provided.

Step 5: You should always check that you’ve correctly constructed a bassinet prior to putting your baby into the basket bassinet

Can a baby still sleep in a bassinet if rolling over?

When a baby begins to roll over, it’s time to move from a bassinet to a cot. When your baby rolls over, which usually happens between four and six months of age, it means they have outgrown their newborn bassinet. As a baby grows more mobile, a crib’s higher edges and greater space will keep them safe.

You can browse our compact cot collection online for a wide range of options, and to find the perfect upgrade for your baby’s next stage of development.

How can I assemble a bassinet?

All our infant bassinets at Tasman Eco are flat packed and straightforward to assemble, along with detailed instructions for construction. The following a short guide to bassinet assembly:

  1. Make sure you have the required tools and prepared all necessary components by laying them out.
  2. Attach the legs to the bassinet and make sure the legs snap firming into position before attaching them to the frame.
  3. As directed by the instructions, install the mattress board and support bars.
  4. Cover the frame with the cloth or fabric and fasten it firmly over the top.
  5. Put the bassinet’s mattress inside the frame.
  6. Attach any wheels your bassinet may have and make sure the brake function is engaged, so the wheels won’t move around, and they are secure.

*Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and check that all elements are constructed correctly before using.
