What is nursery furniture

Baby furniture or nursery furniture is any hard furnishings you will need in the early years with your baby. Nursery furniture is required and used to ensure the parents and carers of the baby are able to keep their child/children safe and comfortable in their home.

Why is nursery furniture important for a baby’s room?

Nursery furniture is important as it helps to create a separate and comfortable space for your little one in the home, here, you’re able to keep their cot, changing station, storage and other essential items in the one place.

Importantly, nursery furniture has been created to keep your child safe, all of which have been tested and approved against the Australian Safety Standards for the required and relevant furniture pieces.

Nursery furniture is also made to be functional for parents, everything has purpose, as a way to help create good and easy practices for baby and parent, especially in those early years and months.

What are essential nursery furniture items?

The essential nursery items to consider when building your nursery include a safe place for your little one to sleep, so a baby cot and/or a bassinet, a chest of drawers or anything that contains sufficient storage to keep all of your key baby goods and necessities.

You’ll need a dedicated spot that sits as your changing station, somewhere that is easy to keep changing necessities close by and a comfortable spot for parent and baby, there will be plenty of time spent here at your changing station.

How do I choose a safe cot for my baby?

When choosing a safe baby cot for your baby, it is most important to ensure and check that the baby cot you are considering has been tested and approved with the Australian Safety Standards.

The current standard that your baby cot needs to be tested with is AS/NZS 2172:2013.

What safety features should I look for in nursery furniture?

Key things to look for when purchasing nursery furniture are the compliance with the relevant Australian Safety Standard, which will assess materials, finishes and product functionality. If the furniture you are looking at does not comply with these standards, it is not recommended for purchase.
